BOOKINESS
Click the links above to see and read about some of my handmade books.
I have been making books since around 1997, when my sister took a class in binding at the Maryland Institute, College of Art. We both took to it immediately, and when I started my MFA at the University of Baltimore, the skills became incredibly important to my work in the Creative Writing and Publishing Arts program.
Many of my earlier books are tiny; some, in fact are less than 3 inches in every direction. Lately, they've been getting bigger, and I've grown to explore materials besides paper and fabrics like Sculpey clay, tape, plastic baggies and even baby lima beans.
I also teach a course called "Literary Publications" at the University of Baltimore. In it, students of the Creative Writing & Publishing Arts MFA program learn all about bookbinding.
